It is understood that performing groups participate at their own expense, however grants are available to help defray travel costs (see below).

Criteria for Children’s Performing Groups:

Teacher/director must be a member of Carl Orff Canada.

The performance must be of a high standard.

The performers must demonstrate an understanding of the elements of the Orff philosophy: speech, song, instrumental playing (including recorder), movement and improvisation and be able to utilize these elements effectively within an extended presentation.

Particular attention should be given to the following:

Speech – clarity, articulation, expression
Song – intonation, head tone, phrasing, articulation, interpretation
Movement – creativity, appropriate choreography, confidence and precision
Instruments – well-developed technique, cohesive ensemble work, balance among instruments, balance between instruments and voices
Repertoire – Orff-Keetman; Canadian; folk; contemporary; original; well-crafted improvisation

Utilization of all “elements” of the process or combinations therof

Application Procedures:

Directors must submit a completed application form as well as an 8 -15 minute DVD of a recent performance, labeled with name, email and phone number of director. DVD’s will not be returned.

Applications are to be submitted to the re:Play Children’s Performance Group Committee who will review and consider all applications.

Applications are available here, and are to be submitted by May 15, 2011

Successful applicants will be advised by June 30, 2011 and may obtain an “Application for Financial Assistance” from the National Secretary, Joanne Linden
